Elder Scott Learning, Living and Sharing the Gospel in Perú: Family Home Evening across the continents.

Elder Scott had a great P-day this past Monday that included boxing, hiking, futbol, and a new haircut. Needless to say, his day was packed, and by the time he made it to the internet to write us, it was pretty late here. When Caleb saw he was finally on the computer, he quickly logged on and sent his brother a note to welcome him to our Monday night Family Home Evening and tasked him with putting together a spiritual thought for all of us. It was super cute, and Elder Scott wasn't about to disappoint so about 30 minutes later this came through.

My thought is on eternal families. From the The Family: A Proclamation to the World we learn that the family is ordained of God, and marriage is specifically between a man and a woman. We also learn that both have specific functions, and it was a divine choice in heaven for the type of person we are. This is one reason why Satan is trying to confuse the world into thinking our Heavenly Father is okay with families that do not follow the divine design of our heavenly Family.

We have a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother. Unfortunately in this day and age, Satan is making a lot of progress, and scaringly fast as well. But, in a revelation given in 1995 we learn how grand of an importance the family has in the Plan of Salvation (See the link above).

President Monson taught that the family unit is IRREPLACEABLE in the plan of our Heavenly Father. Nothing else can take its place. The family is where we learn and build our foundation. This foundation supports us our entire lives. This is why it is of such great importance to build a sure foundation which is built upon the Rock of our Redeemer and His gospel. The very gospel He personally taught during his earthly ministry when he established His church. No other doctrine is true. All other doctrine is scripture mixed with the teachings of man, or Satan in other words. There is only one true gospel of Jesus Christ. It is revealed through prophets of God, just like in the Bible. These prophets serve as the mouthpiece of God. From them, God communicates to His people. These prophets have been given an authority with the name of the priesthood. This priesthood is the authority to act in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Through prophets we have been given revelation for this day and age as well. One example is The Family: A Proclamation To The World. Another key example of prophets in our day and age can be found in the Book of Mormon. This book is equal in importance to the Bible. We do not value the Bible over the Book of Mormon or vise versa because they are both the word of God revealed through his servants. (See Article of Faith #8)

God loves his children, this is why he gives us prophets to lead and guide us in these latter days. This is also why He revealed another testament to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ known as The Book of Mormon. This book can serve as a guide in this day and age because it was written for us by prophets of old here in the Americas with revelations given for these times.

Heavenly Father loves us, perfectly, this is why the Plan of Salvation is so important. It is the plan on how we can return and live in His presence again. All of this is part of His plan and is critically important. That is why we must listen to and follow the revelations of the prophets. These are the revelations that will guide us through these latter days when Satan is working extremely hard to confuse people about God's great plan for us all.

I sure am in love with this child of mine, and I would like to add my own testimony about the truths of the words he just wrote. Our Father in Heaven is the father of us all. He has given us guidelines and direction,which, if we follow, will allow us to return to His presence. At times we may feel His counsel is irrelevant and we might even start to question the reasons why we are taught to live a certain way. During those times what we must always remember is His way is the RIGHT way. It is the ONLY way to live in His presence again, and if we could grasp even a millionth of the amount of love He has for us, we would do ANYTHING for that to happen. For now, all He asks is that we trust in Him, that we obey His commandments, that we live this earthly life in a way that is pleasing to Him. Sometimes that means taking the harder right instead of the easier wrong, but the eternal blessings we are promised if we live righteously and turn away from Satan's temptations and deceptions are worth more than anything we can possibly imagine
